SPOKEN WORD INNER-TAINMENT PUBLISHING POETRY CHAPTER

The Spoken Word Inner-tainment Publishing (SWIP) Poetry Chapter provides disadvantaged and at-risk youth with opportunities to increase literacy through introduction to the arts.  SWIP also gives up and coming authors exposure for their work. At-Risk youth will also be introduced to positive role models and empowering self-image concepts.  The chapter will sponsor a Stop the Violence Movement bi-annually. The purpose of the movement is to empower our communities to take action against the senseless violent crimes that have plagued our cities throughout the nation. The event will bring together authors, lyricists, musicians, artists, community activists, clergy, law enforcement, former gang members, government leadership, and families of all socio-economic backgrounds that have lost loved ones through gang violence, and domestic violence. The event will feature live musical performances, presentations, personal testimonies, remarks and informative literature from local talent. We will provide media coverage and interview individuals on WESL TV26, and our BTR radio show. In addition to providing a forum that showcases local and global talent, the chapter will provide books to area  youth in a book walk, sponsor essay contests, and host a candlelight vigil to remember victims of violence.

Concept:

As stated in the program goal, the purpose of this group is to promote literacy, performing arts, spoken word, and poetry to all age groups with a focus on youth through the writings of up and coming authors. We will publish newsletters, anthologies (books of compiled poems from various artists) and other novels both fiction, and non-fiction. We are a local and national chapter under the umbrella of the Missouri State Poetry Society and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.

Membership:

Members will receive free newsletters from the Missouri State Poetry Society, the National Federation of State Poetry Societies and SWIP's newsletter will be published at least two times per year at no charge. Poems will be submitted for contests, and also to Missouri State Spare Mule for Publishing. Members will be allowed to submit one or two poems, or prose to the state annual anthology in May for free. Members can purchase a copy of their Anthology for $8.75 per book. We will have the opportunity of having our published anthology, and other books displayed at some local independent libraries. A portion of the proceeds will go towards charities for disadvantaged individuals/youth. We will also provide publishing for authors for an additional fee. There is a $50.00 yearly membership fee required. Committee members meet monthly to discuss the direction of this Chapter.
